Five Community Goals for Advancing Public Service at Stanford

On April 2nd, at an event called "Vision Stanford 2020," 60 representatives from across the University engaged in a community conversation on what their dreams are for public service at Stanford over the next ten years. They developed the following list of shared goals:

  • Motivate and facilitate all students to leverage their Stanford education to create positive public impact.
  • Engage with the community, in its various forms and locations, in a way that is collaborative and reciprocal, and in a way that achieves measurable, mutually-established goals.
  • Create an environment where civic engagement and service-learning, broadly defined, are fully integrated into and rewarded within scholarship.
  • Broaden the definition and understanding of public service so that we see opportunities for action across all disciplines, roles, and University facets.
  • Strengthen systems and support for students from all backgrounds and interests to pursue lifelong public service after graduation.
